Why this is a
Masterpiece

This object is quite unique. The porcelain buttons are typical of the taste of 1930s in the mountainous areas of South-East Asia.

History of the Object
Mme Geneviève Thibault de Chambure (1902-1975) was a musicologist. She was the head of the Instrumental Museum of the Paris Conservatoire from 1962 to 1973. She travelled in South-East Asia recording traditional music. She gave the Musée de l'Homme a collection of 60 artefacts from Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos. The largest part of the Asian collection of the musée du quai Branly comes from the Musée de l'Homme. Since 1997, new acquisitions were made by the musée du quai Branly.
