This box made of cloves with betel utensils has a historic meaning for the Museum Siwalima:
These paraphernalia were used during a ceremony on the occasion of the museums relocation to its current location.
One meaning of this ceremony was to symbolize the plentifulness and unity of the Maluku Islands.

Dining table Lesa

This traditional dining table was called "Lesa". The dishes were placed on this table and the family members sat around it during their meals. An old saying refered to this table: "If you become rich and famous, do not forget your "Lesa" (ancestry) and your "Adat" (traditional culture). Today this dining tables are neither used nor produced anymore.

Spoon hanger

This netting was used to store spoons (mostly made of coconut shells), in particular in connection with traditional ceremonies ("Adat"-rites) like weddings: the bride had to relocate her household and personal effects (including this plaited spoon holder) to the house of the bridegroom. Today these spoon holders are neither produced nor in use.

The column of this tool to spin the fiber at weaving is shaped as a ancestry figurine. It is related by oral tradition that the art of weaving is passed down by the ancestors to the living generations.
Every young woman has to learn the technique of weaving before she is allowed to marry.
