The Museum was founded in 1924. In April 2008 received its name the National Museum of Mongolia. Since 1991 to April 2008 museum name was National Museum of Mongolian history. The National Museum of Mongolia holds around 50,000 historical, archaeological and ethnographic objects, and presents the history of Mongolia from the beginnings of human occupation up to the present day, the best of which are on show in ten exhibition halls in both thematic and chronological displays. Exhibition area is 1840 squire m. Exhibition halls are: Ancient History of Mongolia; Ancient States; Traditional Clothing and Jewelry; The Mongolian Empire; Mongolian Traditional Culture; Mongolian Traditional Life; Mongolia under Manchu rule /17th- 20th century/; Mongolia during the Bogd Khan State /1911-1920/; Socialist Mongolia /1921-1990/; Democratic Mongolia /1990-present/ As National Museum the museum became the central museum of Mongolia, whose duty it is to provide all Mongolian museums with professional-methodological guidance and information. Museum of Statehood History (under jurisdiction of NMM) The Museum is supported government funding from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Museum presently has 45 employees. The director of the museum J.Saruulbuyan holds Doctor Ph.and professor and 2 staff members is Doctor Ph. On average the museum receives around 50,000 visitors each year, of which more than 25,000 are foreign visitors. Since 1990-s the museum collections have been displayed in 30 exhibitions held in 18 countries. The Museum is currently implementing joint research projects with museums and scientific organizations from USA, Korea and China. Educational, informational, marketing, outreach and other such projects of differing scope have been implemented since 1998 to attract visitors and raise awareness of our museum and Mongolian cultural heritage.
