Why this is a
Masterpiece

A very rare architectural decoration of the Pyu Period.

History of the Object
On the stone a stupa in a cylindrical shape is carved. The relic chamber is indicated in it. Over the relic chamber a two-tiered umbrella is placed. At the base of the stupa five niches are carved and one Buddha image in the Jana Mudra is placed in each niche. The Buddha images represent four Buddhas that have passed away and one future Buddha (Bodhisattva). It can be assumed that other types of pagodas evolved from this type of stupa.
