Sword and shield
Northern Moluccas

This sword was used in war as well as in ceremonies. It is also regarded as bride price of very high value.The shield is decorated with pieces of porcelain. In the past it was used as a protection during fights. Today it is still used at the war-dance "o hola".
On Halmahera the people relate, that each white decoration on shields like this, symbolize the cutted head of an enemy.
