The Silk Road and China

Many objects imported from Western cultures have been found in Chinese tombs along the Silk Route in the province of Shanxi. Most of these objects show the Persian influence of the Sassanid dynasty (224-651 CE). The glass bowl is probably of Roman origin. The glass bowl from a Korean grave dating from the Silla period (57 BCE-935 CE) is of Syrian-Palestinian origin. Other objects, like the silver cups and the silver plate with a hunting scene, bear traces of Hellenistic influence. The octagonal silver bowl is inscribed in Bactrian, the language of the empire founded by the Greeks in northern Afghanistan.
