Information

Shaanxi History Museum was opened to the public in 1991. It was one of the first huge state museums with modern facilities in China. Shaanxi was the ancient imperial capital of China, having been the seat of more than 14 feudal dynasties, including the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang Dynasties, as well as the starting point of the famous Silk Road. The museum houses over 370,000 precious relics of different times and kinds, including the most typical types of bronze, gold and silver objects, pottery figures, and the precious wall paintings from Tang tombs. The museum enjoys great fame in the fields of collection, preservation, scientific research, display and social service. The basic exhibition “Shaanxi Ancient Civilization” won the first prize of the “Top Ten Best Museum Exhibitions in 2007-2008 China”, and the museum was listed as one of the “State-Level Key Museums” in 2009. The new theme exhibition “Treasures of Great Tang Dynasty-The Unearthed Relics from Hejiacun Hoard” was opened in April, 2010. The museum will hold a new exhibition “Silk Road” in collaboration with five provinces (autonomous regions) in northwest China in August—November, 2010. Another new gallery for “The Wall paintings from Tang Tombs ” will open to the public in the near future. The museum considers it an obligation to offer the best exhibitions, beautiful environment, and comfortable service to its visitors, and is trying to play an active role in presenting ancient civilizations and promoting cultural exchanges between China and other nations.
