Information

Vietnam National Museum of History was established in 1958. Initially it was called the Louis Finot Museum, which had been established in 1926 during French rule with the aim to display art works from the Far East. It was transferred to the Vietnamese Government in 1958. After readjusting and modifying the content and form of the exhibits, Vietnam National Museum of History was officailly inaugurated and opened to welcome visitors on September 3, 1958. The pernament exhibition of the museum is now presented starting with the historical evolution from the dawn of human life in the land of Vietnam and ending with the 1945 August Revolution when the Democratic Republic of Vietnam came into being. There are more than 7,000 objects displayed within a space covering two large floors of more than 2,200 square metres. Apart from the pernament exhibition, there is a room available for temporary exhibitions in the Museum.
