The Museum of Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region is the only comprehensive provincial museum in Xinjiang and the largest institution for the preservation and protection of specimens of cultural relics, scientific research, publicity and education. It is situated at a scenic spot with four levels and is one of the top museums in China. There are more than 40,000 cultural relics and specimens stored in the museum, among which are about 400 first–rate relics, covering about 60 percent of the total in Xinjiang. At the opening of the new museum, five different exhibits were presented to the people. They are “Retrace the Glory of the Western Regions in the Past-A display of Historical Relics in Xinjiang”; “Display of Folk Customs of Nationalities in Xinjiang”; “Display of Xinjiang Ancient Corpses”; “Precious Costumes in the Vast Desert- A Memory of Costumes in the Western Regions” and “Together with the Motherland Forever”.
