Why this is a
Masterpiece

This old bead, although simple in looks, is a bead of prominent value to the aristocratic class of the Kayan and Kenyah people. It belonged to Baya Lejau, a member of the ruling class of the Long Kaput Kayan. It was used in payment for a human being - a life

History of the Object
It was purchased for $100 by Hudsons Southwell for the Sarawak Museum in 1965. There are only 20 to 40 of these beads left in Sarawak. It is a "male" specimen of these kinds of bead, a trait that can be distinguished by experts.
