Masterpiece

This statue portrays Varuna, guardian of the west and also the Hindu god of water. In this sculpture, he is depicted sitting on his mount, a sacred goose. The decoration of the diadem and chignon, the representation of his natural torso and facial expression are classified as typical of Pre Rup style and as such, one of the masterpieces of Khmer art.
