Masterpiece

This water-color painting, in addition to being a rare specimen as a work of art, is a historical document of social life, especially two festivals, in Dhaka in the nineteenth century.

History of the Object
The water-color painting is from the series of 39 water-color paintings drawn in Dhaka under the patronage of Intezem al-Daula Nasir al-Mulk Nawab Syed Ali Khan Bahadur Nusrat Jung (1796-1823), the Naib Nazim of Dhaka. These water-color paintings illustrate Eid and Muharram processions in Dhaka in the nineteenth century.
