Nam Gye-u earned himself the nickname "Nam Butterfly" because he painted mostly butterflies throughout his life. In this painting of his, an iris and lilies are painted on Chinese paper.

History of the Object
Nam Gye-u (1811-1890) was a fifth-generation descendant of Nam Gu-man (1629-1711), a prime minister under King Sukjong (1661-1720) of Joseon.
