Why this is a
Masterpiece

A note at the end of this book specifies that it was made as an offering to a temple by Gakyeon in the 19th year of the reign of Emperor Hongwu of Ming China (the 12th year of the reign of King U of Goryeo, 1386 C.E.) as a commission for Lady Kim, wife of Lord Juksan, who had been introduced to Gakyeon by Gakbo. It is designed as Korean Treasure No.352.

History of the Object
The Lotus Sutra, along with the Avatamsaka Sutra, two of the most influential Mahayana sutras, had a major influence on the establishment of Buddhism on the Korean peninsula. This particular manuscript, rendered in silver on dark blue paper, is the seventh book of the seven-book Lotus Sutra.
