Utamaro, one of the most famous designers of ukiyo-e woodblock prints, was particularly celebrated for his elegant depictions of courtesans and beauties.

History of the Object
The print is from the series, Customs of Beautiful Women by the Clock. Here, two women lean over a well, using the water as a mirror. The ‘Time of the Hare’ was between five and seven in the morning.
