Why this is a
Masterpiece

Chosen and explained by Toshio ASAKURA "A Typical Korean Way of Entertaining Guests". Fieldwork starts with eating dinner. If you want to be welcomed by the people living in a town, you should have dinner with them, and so show that you are able to live there. My parents taught me that I have to finish any meal that has been prepared for me, so I thought I was in trouble when I saw a huge meal put in front of me in the region I was to study in Korea, in 1979. This was my first research visit to Korea.

History of the Object
It is a typical Korean way of entertaining guests by placing so much food on a four-legged tray that the legs sometimes cannot support the tray. It expresses the hospitality of Korean people.
