Buddha Image Holder

Why this is a
Masterpiece

The holder is very big. It holds not only a Buddha statue, but it also includes a scripture box in the middle part. The box is decorated with stucco and coloured glass. It is a beautiful piece with a lot of fine decorations.

History of the Object
The holder is made in the Burmese style and the inscription is in Burmese script. We do not know exactly where the object originates.

Holders like these keep Buddha images inside. They make these images look richer and more important. In each temple the most important Buddha images are kept in a holder like this, sometimes simple ones, and occasionally very beautiful like this one. 
Acquisition
Chiang Mai Tassanaporn, an antique dealer from Chiang Mai donated the object to the State in 1981
