Why this is a
Masterpiece

Albanian imitative coins are important attributes of the Azerbaijani statehood in the 4th century BCE because they show a high level of commodity-money exchange and the presence of stable political and administrative institutions in Albania.

History of the Object
The history of monetary circulation in Azerbaijan begins from III century B.C. with the coins of Alexander the Macedonian, discovered in Azerbaijan. Owing to the fact that there were close ties between the ancient Azerbaijani states of Albania and Atropatena and cultural circles of Hellenistic world, silver coins from foreign countries - Macedonia, Thrace, Athens, Rome, Bithynia, Cappadocia, Pontus, Seleucia, Parthia and Bactria penetrated into Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan had been included into the orbit of international commodity-money exchange and, beginning from the second half of the III century BCE, began producing its own currency - the silver drachmas and tetradrachms - imitation coins of Alexander the Macedonian and Hellenistic states of Seleucia and Parthia. The first mints in Albania were probably located in the capital city of Kabalaka (at present Gabala), where these coins were minted.
