Besides being a fine piece of art, it is also a good example of the way Siebold acquired, described and studied his collection.

History of the Object
This painting was made by Kawahara Keiga, on order from Philipp Franz von Siebold. The work is part of the Siebold Collection. Collected by Philipp Franz von Siebold in Japan, between 1823 and 1830. The natural species and drawings of animals and plants became part of the collection of NCB Naturalis.
