Why this is a
Masterpiece

The present image of king Songtsen Gampo bears a considerable resemblance to the Lhasa image.

History of the Object
King Songtsen Gampo who died sometime around AD 650 introduced Buddhism to Tibet. He was worshiped by the people of Tibet as Avalokiteshvara, the great protector of Tibet. His images started appearing soon after his death. One of the earliest images was a life size terracotta figure accompanied by his two wives, installed at the Potala in Lhasa.
