Why this is a
Masterpiece

It is an important testimony to the construction of one of the most important stupas of Laos.

History of the Object
The information on the stone refers to the construction of the That Luang Stupa. It gives the year of construction, the materials used, and the name of the builder. King Say Setha Thirad ordered the building of the stupa. The stupa was built in 1566. The language that is used is Pali language. The two sides of the stone each bear texts. The stone was erected at the official entrance of the stupa, but was lost and later found under a tree on the grounds by workers who cleaned the area in 1972.
