Why this is a
Masterpiece

The figurine is beautiful and has also a high scientific value with respect to the knowledge about the Northwest of China in the Tang Dynasty Era.

History of the Object
The female figurine has a plump face, a cherry-like mouth, and a high hair style. She wears a high black cap in a conical shape and a hat with a gauze veil. She further wears an orange shirt with a round collar and long sleeves, loose trousers with brown and white mixed vertical stripes and black leather boots while riding on a brown horse. This type of veiled hat was used by nomadic people living in the Northwestern parts of China as a protection against the wind while being outside. After the custom came to the Central Plains, it was regarded as fashionable clothing for noble women when playing outside. This practice later affected the upper class women in the Turpan area. The figurine reflects the customs in the Gaochang area at that time and shows that the Tang Dynasty had been fully established there. It also shows that the veiled hat had become fashionable for aristocratic women in the area.
