Masterpiece

Zhu Tan was well versed in music, chess, painting and calligraphy.This painting, one of his grave gifts, is a rare find. On one side of the fan a sunflower and butterfly are painted; on the reverse side is a calligraphy of Emperor Gaozong of the Song Dynasty with a seal of "Huang Zi Tu Shu". There is also a calligraphy of Feng Zizhen at the lower part.

History of the Object
The grave of Lu Zhu Tan (1370-1389) was discovered in 1970. Zhu Tan belonged to the Imperial Family for the early Ming Dynasty; he was the tenth son of Emperor Hongwu, founder of the Ming dynasty. More than 2000 objects were found at the grave site.
