Why this is a
Masterpiece

The coffin cover is believed to be one of the largest embroidered pieces of funerary cover from the last century in existence in Singapore. Besides the traditional Chinese motifs of mythical beasts and deities, the borders of the two long sides of the cover feature embroidered scenes from the Twenty-four Paragons of Filial Devotion.

History of the Object
This coffin cover was made for a Straits Chinese (Peranakan) funeral in the early 20th century.
