It is an exquisite example of the art of rhinoceros horn carving. It illustrates the eighteenth-century use of exotic materials to create works imitating objects originally made in other media.

History of the Object
This censer takes the form and style of an ancient bronze tripod ritual vessel of the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties.
