This statue distinctly presents the Dhavaravati art style and it has a high artistic value.

History of the Object
In about the 7th century, Theravada Buddhism of the Dvaravati from the central Chao Phraya basin was a religion held in high esteem on the Isan Plateau. The Dvaravati style derived from Indian archetypes such as Amaravati and Gupta styles, and were integrated with local art.

This sculpture was found by the 11th Engineer Regiment while they dredged Lum Huay Yang (Yang Canal) at Ban Donkhwang, Tap-rang sub-district, Noenthai district, Nakhon Ratchasima province on the 11th May, 1989. After that they transterred the sculpture to Maha Viravong National museum.
