Why this is a
Masterpiece

Qi Baishi is one of the greatest Chinese painters. His paintings well represent the Chinese tradition of art, but in an innovative form and style. The art of Qi Baishi originated from nature, and his favourite subjects were animals, insects, and flowers. At the same time his work is full of essence, character, and spirit. The painting in our collection represents this character very well.

History of the Object
Acquired in 1978 as a gift from the Polish artist, Andrzej Strumiłło. He had the opportunity to meet Qi Baishi during his first visit to China in 1954. Qi Baishi painted this work in the presence of his Polish guest, then gave it to him. As a friend of Andrzej Wawrzyniak, Strumiłło donated the painting to the new museum created by Wawrzyniak.
