Why this is a
Masterpiece

The two figurines are each a human’s body, one with a rooster's head and one with a pig’s head, which are two of the twelve symbolic animals within a twelve-year cycle. Both were found in a tomb, where they were put on behalf of a husband and wife who were born in the Year of the Rooster and the of the Pig. Usually the husband was slightly older than the wife, so the man was most probably born in the Year of the Rooster, and the woman in the Year of the Pig.

History of the Object
The tombs are located to the Southeast ofTurpan city close to the ancient City of Gaochang. The tombs were the public cemetery of the ancient Gaochang residents. Among the more than ten thousand cultural relics excavated are over 2700 books, paintings, pottery, silk and cotton textiles. The time recorded in the books ranges from 273 to 772.
