The figurine of Ms. Sun Approving a Sword reflects the high level of Zhang Mungshan’s craftsmanship.

History of the Object
Zhang Mingshan was the founder of the artistic tradition of painted clay figurines (Ni Ren Zhang) in Tianjin. He was born under the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty. He won several international prizes during his life. His later generations continued the tradition in the family. Nowadays (2010) there is the sixth generation of Ni Ren Zhang makers.
