Why this is a
Masterpiece

Zhao Gou (1107 – 1187), Song Emperor Gaozong, was the ninth son of Huizong. Using regular and cursive scripts, he transcribed Jikang’s article Yangsheng Lun (on health). It is one of his masterpieces of calligraphy.

History of the Object
This scroll has been in the hands of the Yuan court, Ming masters Li Dongyang and Wang Shizhen, and Qing master Liang Qingbiao. It reentered the imperial collection in the Qianlong reign, but flowed out of the court in Puyi’s time. It is a treasure with a clear record of passing down.
