Why this is a
Masterpiece

This circlet of silver decorated with elaborate scrolling of silver wire and set with corals and turquoises, was worn with two large stiffened braids of hair. The braids are said to represent a cow's horn, reminding married women of Mongols' descent from a nature spirit and cow. A married woman must remove her elaborate headdress set - along with the rest of her jewellery -- when she becomes a widow.

History of the Object
Hairstyles and headdresses are considered all-important in the Mongolian concept of female beauty.
