Why this is a
Masterpiece

This pot is a fine example of the manufacture of stoneware in China under the Song Dynasty. It was fired with blue or violet glaze and manufactured also for export. Since the end of the nineteenth century, this stoneware has inspired potters in Scandinavia to produce stoneware on a Chinese technical and aesthetic foundation.

History of the Object
The bowl was bought from an antique dealer by the donor. It is now shown in the exhibition China – in the middle of the World at Kulturen in Lund.
