Function
Stands like these hold Buddha images inside. They make these images look richer and more important. In each temple the most important Buddha images are kept in a stand like this. Sometimes they are simple, and occasionally they are very beautiful like this one. 
Acquisition
The holder was received from the Wat Phraya Chompu, a temple in the Saraphee district of Chiang Mai. It was given as a long-term loan. The temple retains ownership.
