Why this is a
Masterpiece

In spite of its small size this sculpture is highly expressive and shows the truly exceptional skills of the carver.

History of the Object
The anthropomorphic sculpture probably represented the ancestors of the tribe. The miniature maskoid is a diminutive copy of a shaman’s mask, a sculptured image of a grimaced male face, a decorative plaque crowned by an enigmatic face. The ancient carver’s aim was creating a clear, laconic and captivating image. Without showing excessive detail, the artist succeeded in making the image more whole and full of extraordinary inner strength.
