Why this is a
Masterpiece

This wonsam was made of silk satin with supplementary gold weft thread with a cloud and dragon pattern, and lined with floral motifs of silk satin damask. The seam shown outside of this garment indicates that each piece was made before these pieces were sewn together. The front bodice is shorter than the back one and there are detachable cuffs on the sleeves.

History of the Object
This was excavated from the tomb of Mrs. Yi (1664-1722) in Hanam City , Gyeonggi Province. Her husband was a member of the royal family of the JoseonDynasty. Her descendants moved her tomb to a new place in 1999. Curators of the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum assisted with the move. Afterwards, the family donated many clothes excavated from the tomb.
