Why this is a
Masterpiece

This is a very special celadon, representing the quality of the Hengso Museum collection. It has the distinct features of jade-green color celadons of the 12th Century.

History of the Object
This celadon jar has four ears on which a lotus design is incised. The "Illustrated Records of the Chinese Embassy to the Goryeo Court during the Xuanhe Era", written by Xu Jing, a Song Dynasty envoy, records that the people of the Goryeo Period referred to the blue color of 12th century celadon as "jade-green", or "bisaek" in Korean. This explains why Goryeo people compared the blue color of celadon to 'blue jade'.
