Why this is a
Masterpiece

The panoramic composition and green and blue painting technique creates a brilliant and exquisite work of art. The immortals' feast on Yoji Pond was a popular theme for paintings on folding screens. It is closely related to other court paintings such as the Ten Longevity, in composition and iconography. This is one of the most precious relics of Gyeonggi Provincial Museum.

History of the Object
This depicts the feast held for the immortals on Yo-ji Pond. It is in the heavenly world of Mt. Gollyun ruled by Seo-wang-mo and Ju-mok-wang. This is a theme adopted from an ancient story which is written in some old Chinese books such as Juk-seo-gi-nyeon and Mok-cheon-ja-jeon. The immortals are represented by their specific symbols. All kinds of heavenly animals and plants are depicted in the painting. For example, a pine tree, a peacock, a deer, a phoenix, a crane, a dragon, a wizard, etc. Such a concentrated composition is closely related to the painting 'Formal Installation of Crown Prince' (1800) on a folding screen. It was painted after the Immortals' Feast on Yo-ji Pond to enhance its auspicious character.
