Why this is a
Masterpiece

Not many of these steles are left. It is quite a unique object, especially because of its age. The stupa that is depicted on the stele does not exist anymore, which makes it the more interesting.

History of the Object
Many objects like this stele were collected in temples before the building of the Nam Ngum Dam and were all taken to That Luang. Construction of the dam would cause the temples to be destroyed by the rising water in the reservoir. This stele comes from the Thin Keo temple in the Keo Oudom district, Vientiane province, about 80 kilometers North of Vientiane.
