Why this is a
Masterpiece

There are more than 20 riders who wear two-colored long robes with tight sleeves, black turbans and black boots. Five riders holding crescent-shaped sticks to scramble the ball, while the other riders are galloping across. This is the earliest pictorial evidence for polo playing in China.

History of the Object
The second son of Emperor Gao Zong and Empress Wu Zetian, Zhanghuai became Crown Prince in 675 AD but was removed by his mother. Four years later, he was ordered to commit suicide at age 31. He was reinstated posthumously in 711 and buried along with his wife in this tomb. Hundreds of objects have been unearthed from the tomb. The wall, 400 square meters long, was covered by fifty murals in an excellent state of preservation.
