Why this is a
Masterpiece

The rectangular tray with rounded and indented corners stands on four arched, leaf-shaped feet. The rim is embossed with a gadrooned border, interrupted by shell motifs, within which is an embossed border containing a continuous floral tendril. The transition from the border to the surface of the tray is marked by a line of small circular indentations.

History of the Object
The centre is adorned with an engraved medallion containing a horseman and the circumscription ‘Batavia Burger Cavalarij A=o 1734’. This emblem also features on two spittoons, see cat. no. 17.
