Why this is a
Masterpiece

Although not a masterpiece in the strict sense of the word, the Tropenmuseum considers this envelope to be of the utmost importance considering its relation to the collection and the information it conveys about communication. Not many have been saved from the ravages of time. Simple objects can appear to be of greater rarity and importance than those with more obvious masterpiece qualifications.

History of the Object
This envelop which originally contained a letter was brought to its destination by runners who were replaced in each village. The black and white feathers indicate the runners had to travel day and night until the destination was reached.
