Masterpiece

Red pottery mixed with sand. The red surface has decorations painted in black. This was a very popular colour scheme in Xinjiang pottery. The inside of the bowl is painted red. Around the rim of the interior a small triangular pattern is carved. The triangular pattern is also a most popular pattern in Xinjiang.

History of the Object
The Alagou graves, in the Turfan region, date from the Spring and Autumn Period as well as the Warring States Period. They were discovered in the 1970's. Interesting textiles have been found.
