Masterpiece

In this painting, the ridges and peaks pile on top of one another, the mist intertwines amongst the clouds, the vast river water flows in the distant landscape. The sharp and clever brushwork is typical of Wang Shen’s style. This scroll was once in the Song dynasty royal collection.

History of the Object
Wang Shen (1048 – 1104), also known by his zi (designated name) Pu Qing, was a native of Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. He was quite good at poetry and calligraphy, but he was especially skilled at landscape paintings.
