Why this is a
Masterpiece

This dancer gives us an idea of culture and entertainment in the upper strata of Chinese society, part of the life of the Imperial court. The design of the figure shows great skill in rendering the movements of the dance and the clothes.

History of the Object
Clay figures placed in graves reflect Chinese society with its peasants and mandarins, its emperor and court. They were deposited as gifts to the deceased. Through the grave goods of the Han and Tang eras, we can learn about life in China at that time.
