This original drawing was the source for a copperplate in the work of Peter Simon Pallas Sammlungen historischer Nachrichten über die Mongolischen Völkerschaften. Vol. 2. St. Petersburg 1801.

History of the Object
David Renatus Nitschmann observed the Buddhist cremation ceremony of Lama Abagay of the Kalmyks in 1772 near Sarepta, a Moravian settlement on the lower Volga.
