Download print email facebook twitter me2day

Why this is a
Masterpiece

It is a historic document, because nowadays, Padian can no longer be seen as they are now more comfortable selling their goods in open air markets or “Tamu” in the capital.

History of the Object
This painting portrays women vendors of the Kampong Ayer (water village). They earned their living by trading products round the Kampong ayer using boats. These women traders were called ‘Padian’. One of the characteristics of padian was their big hat called ‘siraong bini’. The Padian used to sell fresh fish, vegetables, dry food and other daily necessities. Sometimes they even practiced barter trade.
