Why this is a
Masterpiece

The boat is an expression of the creativity in the traditional wood carving and engraving by the Viet people. The boat procession and race are manifestations of the cultural identity of the rural areas. It is the typical symbol of worshipping for the men who lived in regions of the river and the sea. The boat is unique and stands out in the ancient art of Vietnam.

History of the Object
The boat comes from the Keo Pagoda, Vu Thu district, Thai Binh Province which was built in 1608 and storing many valuable ritual objects from the Le Dynasty, of which the most outstanding is the crimson and gilded wooden dragon boat from the 17th century in the Restored Le period. The boat looks magnificent with red lacquer and gold. The dragons at the bow and stern of the boat are the main decorations. On the boat are a bronze gong, a wooden drum covered with animal hide, two wooden guns, two oval shields, one thatched roof and 20 oars on both sides of the boat. This is considered as a reproduction of a war boat. After the procession of the boat, a boat race was organized on the river. This reflects the rituals of agricultural production.
