Why this is a
Masterpiece

Wooden statue of the founder of a house (family group) on Leti Island (Southeast Moluccas). The face of the statue fascinates me. It seems to stare at us straight in the face, saying: what have you done to me? By dr Pieter ter Keurs, Curator Insular Southeast Asian Collections, Leiden.

History of the Object
It was collected by G.W.W.C. Baron van Hoëvell, a Dutch civil servant who played an important role in politics and scientific research in 19th century East-Indonesia.
