Why this is a
Masterpiece

The work shows a young Mongolian woman wearing national dress, sitting demurely with her hands crossed over a book on her lap. Looking into the distance, the young woman smiles and radiates a quiet beauty. Her accessories include pearl earrings, a winter sable fur hat with red and blue silk headband. Over a lamb’s wool lined blue silk deel, she wears a brown waistcoat with yellow khorgoi. This work shows special finesse in its integration of both classical Mongolian painting and classical Western portraiture.

History of the Object
Sengetoskhio Adiya, a nationally recognized Mongolian painter, created ‘Mongol Woman’ in 1977 using the traditional painting method of mineral pigments on cloth.
