Why this is a
Masterpiece

It is a masterpiece in our collection because of the historical significance, especially for Indonesian National Awakening.

History of the Object
Soepratman became a member of the orchestra at Societeit Concordia, Bandung. He composed and played the song “Indonesia” which later became "Indonesia Raya", the National Anthem. With this violin he played Indonesia Raya for the first time on 28 October, 1928 at Gedung Kramat Raya 106 Jakarta, the present museum building. The violin was a gift from Soepratman’s brother.
